Just because we were taught something,,.

“Just because we were taught something and believed it all of our lives doesn’t make it the truth.” —

That statement has several flaws in it.
When we are taught something, it does not mean that we believe it. Teaching is one component in the process of learning. Beliefs can manifest without learning. One can be ignorant but still have beliefs. Blind faith is also based upon beliefs. The truth has nothing to do with beliefs. There is the act of believing and the act of knowing. When one is hungry, it is never about believing. It has nothing to do with believing. The feeling of hunger has to do with knowing. It is a direct experience. Beliefs and the act of believing according to the dictionary definition include room for doubt. When one is hungry, there is no doubt involved. Truth has to do with knowing. All of the religions and the places of worship they use, require their followers to believe. Truth does not require for one to believe. No one ever believes they are hungry. If you are experiencing hunger, it would be ludicrous for me to convince you that you not. You will never hear people say that they believe they are hungry. Every person that experiences hunger, knows that it is a direct experience from inside their gut and has nothing to do with believing. Hunger does not require any teaching. None of us ever learned how to be hungry. When you experience hunger, you know it and you also know what to do about it. Religions require people to believe. The people, who call themselves the faithful followers of a or any particular religion, are involved in a cult. You are encouraged to believe. As exemplified by the adult role models, you are encouraged to adopt an identity, to wear a garb, to dress and behave like a religious person, to keep religious symbols, and to do the prayers and the associated rituals (and much more). All of this is done to fit in the prison that is formed from the bedrock of believing.
On April 28, 2024, the Sikhs are having a Khalsa Day at Toronto City Hall.
Reflect upon this writing and personally experience whether or not any of the logic and analogies presented are true.
